Muhka Library
Would you like to know more about film or contemporary visual art? Are you looking for more information about the artworks you see in the museum? You can visit the Muhka Library.
The reference library houses an alphabetical overview of publications by the 200 core artists, from Marina Abramović to Yang Fudong, an overview of Muhka publications since 1987 and a selection of theoretical books on contemporary visual culture and film.
The art library also contains more than 35,000 books and catalogues, 1,000 journal titles with 25 current subscriptions and hundreds of documentation files on individual artists or collectives. The library collection grows daily and looks beyond the standardised image of artworks.
The film library is the starting point for knowledge formation and reflection on film, video and new media. The collection contains 7,000 books and catalogues, documentation files with press cuttings, 800 journal titles from 50 different countries and 41 current subscriptions.

Muhka Documentation and Research Centre
Since 2002, Muhka has followed a systematic practice of research and image formation around the collection. In parallel, Muhka develops a historiographical vision — centred on the question of the international post-war avant-garde — and a contextual research practice. Muhka collects documentation and archive material, including essays, press cuttings, audiovisual materials and invitations.
There is also a strong focus on artist books, artist catalogues, artist inserts, artist magazines and artist novels; books as carriers of images, the book or magazine as an object — and with objects or art as a novel, as well as ‘ephemera’ or ‘in-between works’. The Book Lovers’ systematically research the phenomenon of artist novels. Today, a collection of 400 titles has been brought together.
