Stef Van Looveren — OPUS III

Performance

17 May 2026

OPUS III is a new performance by Stef Van Looveren that unfolds as a continuation, rather than a new beginning. The performance is conceived as a symbolic baptism of 33 minutes, in which body, material and time come together in a shared transformative transition. It looks for the dissolution of the conditioned self and the careful wearing away of imposed limitations. Through repetition and subtle, considered gestures, the work becomes a process of melting away: an act of unlearning, letting go and transforming, in which what has been learned, imposed and considered fixed is gradually released.

As the work develops, it gently points towards a state of union in which dualities soften and distinctions blur. It suggests an androgynous wholeness that withdraws from fixed identity. Boundaries between ritual, endurance and sculpture gradually dissolve into a fluid state of becoming, guiding those present through a series of concentrated moments within a shared, immersive experience.

About the artist

Stef Van Looveren is a Belgian multidisciplinary artist working with performance, video, photography, sculpture and installation. Their practice explores the politics of embodiment, sexuality and the constructed nature of identity, often using humour and prosthetic objects to show how identities are formed, limited and liberated. Van Looveren’s performances and installations blur the boundaries between theatrical spectacle, ritual and bodily exploration. Inspired by religious iconography, technology, popular culture and subcultures such as BDSM, their work develops an immersive and charged visual language that questions normative expectations around the body and invites the viewer into a transformative experience.
