Publications

Since 2002, the M HKA has abandoned the traditional path of the museum catalogues. Instead, the M HKA is looking for opportunities to link its exhibition programme with interesting ‘flanking’ publications, possibly in co-production, preferably with a publishing house. The M HKA can contribute some expertise in this respect.

In terms of content, it strives to work in partnership with external authors of a high calibre and would, at the same time, like to pay due attention to artists’ texts and the potential of a book as a carrier of documentation and information – possibly even as a virtual exhibition space.

Between 2003 and 2007, the M HKA published the quarterly media magazine AS, and has, since the cessation of AS, been one of the co-publishers of the international, English-language art journal Afterall. In order to continue to meet the needs and demands of a local Dutch public, among others, the M HKA publishes the AS notebooks that appear at irregular intervals.

In a smaller series of reflexive publications that have served as New Year’s wishes in recent years, the M HKA has, among other, published texts by Boris Groys, Vivian Liska, Pascal Gielen, Dieter Roelstraete, Rosi Braidotti and Isabelle Strengers.
