Practical information for your visit

Why is Muhka working towards its future?

In 2025, the planned new museum building project was cancelled. Together with changes in the Flemish museum sector and preparations for a new policy period, this led the museum to reconsider its direction.

Muhka aims to strengthen its own artistic and museum practice. In 2026, it therefore adopted a strategic direction: its collection as the foundation, with greater emphasis on collaboration and sharing art and knowledge.

The strategic direction has been agreed. Its practical implementation will follow in stages, with separate decisions on matters such as future infrastructure.

What remains and what will develop further?

Where do we stand today?

Some important decisions have been made. Other aspects will take shape over the coming years.

Decided. The collection will underpin the museum’s future work. The museum will have a leadership team comprising a general director and an artistic director.

In progress. The 2026–2028 transition plan is being developed further, focusing on the organisation, collections and communication.

Still under consideration. The future organisational structure of CKV and the museum’s infrastructure have not yet been decided. Explore what the museum is working on.

What direction is Muhka taking?

Collection as our foundation.
Network as our strength.

The collection remains at the heart of Muhka. From this starting point, the museum aims to forge stronger connections between art, artists, knowledge, organisations and audiences.

  • Collection: improving the care, research, display and accessibility of artworks and archives.
  • Collaboration: building more lasting relationships with artists, museums, research institutions and other partners.
  • Audiences: sharing art and knowledge in more ways, both inside and beyond the museum.

This direction has been agreed. How exactly it will be reflected in future projects is still being developed.
