The Hospital School — Showing Off 9

This INBOX exhibition presented the results of workshops with pupils from De Ziekenhuisschool. Guided by professional artists, they explored contemporary art inspired by The Lives of Animals, the book by Nobel Prize-winning author and animal rights advocate J.M. Coetzee.

Schools regularly organise cultural activities such as theatre and film performances, workshops and museum visits. Children and youngsters who attend classes at hospital school De Leerexpert often lack these opportunities. Reason enough for De Leerexpert Ziekenhuisschool and Muhka to join forces, for the ninth year in a row.
In workshops under the guidance of professional artists, the pupils then experimented with different materials and media. This exhibition is a narrative about the wonder, experiment, action and creativity that arise when children and youngsters are exposed to contemporary art.
The group exhibition The Lives of Animals, on view at Muhka during the summer of 2024, was inspired by the book of the same name by author, animal rights activist, and Nobel Prize laureate John Maxwell Coetzee. The artists who led the Ziekenhuisschool workshops also drew inspiration from this book.
