VIDEO/TAKE: België – Argentinië 1976
15 May 2026
On Friday 15 May 2026, Muhka, De Cinema and designer Jelle Jespers present VIDEO/TAKE: Belgium – Argentina 1976 during Antwerp Art Weekend. Historical video works from the ICC period are brought together again on the big screen after fifty years.
In 1976, the fifth edition of the International Open Encounter on Video took place at the Internationaal Cultureel Centrum (ICC) in Antwerp, a key moment in the early history of video art. The event was organised in collaboration with the Argentinian Centro de Arte y Comunicación (CAyC), led by Jorge Glusberg, and was supported in Antwerp by ICC director Flor Bex.
VIDEO/TAKE: Belgium – Argentina 1976 starts from that historical encounter, but does not treat it as closed history. The presentation asks how fragile archival material can become visible, shareable and meaningful again today.
The evening connects with the archival presentation Nueva Visión. Print as Artistic Practice (1940-1976) at Muhka, in which Jelle Jespers examines graphic design and print in Argentina as spaces for experiment, exchange and social engagement. In this context, VIDEO/TAKE also touches on the reconstruction of video works by Jef Geys: how can historical image material be viewed, edited and made public again today?

Afterwards
After VIDEO/TAKE, the Antwerp premiere of UNLABELED. FIVE BELGIAN GRAPHIC DESIGN ARCHIVES follows at De Cinema at 20:00. The film starts from a related question: what happens to the creative memory of a graphic designer?
