On February 29, 2024, artist Antje Majewski took on the role of Superhost at M HKA. For almost a year, she worked on a broad performative and collaborative project centered on apples. The apple serves not only as an inspiring artistic object but also as a medium for reflecting on themes like migration, locality, and biodiversity loss. How did Antje experience her year as Superhost?

Ten years after his death, M HKA pays tribute to Hugo Roelandt with a first museum retrospective of this versatile artist, performer, installation artist and photographer. We also celebrate visionary artist and engineer of dreams Panamarenko, who brought art and science together in unprecedented ways.

With Superhost, M HKA partners with an artist or collective for a year. We offer our top floor, they provide the interpretation, and thus a beautiful dialogue emerges each time, in which the audience is also part of. This year's guests are Antje Majewski and Pawel Freisler. Together, they explore the dual nature of apples both as art objects and as points of reference in discussions about biodiversity loss.

On April 8th, the museum connected these panels, which were installed on the roofs of the building this spring. This marks a new phase of focus – not only on internal production processes and back-office operations but also on addressing the current, restrictive, and challenging infrastructure in terms of ecology, climate, and sustainability.

In the context of its solidarity activities with Ukraine, the M HKA is giving special attention to important ensembles by Ukrainian artists from the museum's collection.

Following our open call for the M HKA / VAN ABBEMUSEUM RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP within the framework of the L’Internationale OUR MANY EUROPES PROGRAMME, M HKA and the Van Abbemuseum are pleased to announce that the artist duo Pejvak have been invited to develop a research project responding to two forthcoming exhibitions.
