The core collection or nucleus spans the period of G58, the events in the mid-1960s to the present. The Gordon Matta-Clark Foundation dating from the ICC era contributed the basics. This was complemented by their own purchases and works on permanent loan from the Flemish Community. Moreover, there are often significant donations, such as that of Panamarenko, who donated his property along Biekorfstraat and the entire contents to the museum, or the Polaroids of Luc Tuymans.

In recent years, we also collected art from regions with an unknown art scene, such as Central Asia and Russia, North Africa, China and India.
